The Pups of Pomeroy
Past and Current Friends

Flicka

Senior Assistant

Miss Flicka came into my life during a time that I needed her most, and her understated presence is simply a gift to my daily life. Sophisticated, intelligent, and unassuming, this lady will do anything for a cookie - or even a measly little crumb! Not to worry, she gets plenty of snacks at camp - which, I'm 99% sure is her favorite perk of getting all-access to as many walks and hikes as her little heart desires.

At 10 years and counting, I can steadily rely on her to keep the troops in line with her small but mighty presence. That is, unless the outdoor temperature reads anything below 32 degrees -  in that case, I'm on my own and she politely diverts her most dedicated duty to warming the couch for the day. We've gotten our routine down pat such that if I walk toward the door all geared up for work, she either trots behind me, which means "yes, take me too!". Or she sits 9 feet away from the door and looks at me with sleepy eyes and a paw raised slightly, which equates to "it's far too chilly out there for me, but go ahead if you must, and I'll keep the couch warm for you until you get back". What would I do without you, Flicka?

Australian Shepherd dog

Yogi Bear

Everyone's Bestie

Yogi is the heart and soul of Pomeroy Pup Pack. He is my co-captain, my demo dog, and my trusted friend. Every dog that comes through our doors has the pleasure of meeting this boy. I have come to trust his instincts about new friends as he helps me to evaluate if they will be a good match for our pack.  From the puppies who need a confident 'big brother' to show them the ropes to the dogs who are sharpening their recall and need a friend to influence that healthy behavior, I can steadily rely on Yogi to set an example for the better. I appreciate Yogi's ability to hike and run ALL day at my side, or just as easily be a sleepy potato and join Flicka and me on the couch for a movie and a good snuggle.

Nico

Mr. Wiggle Worm

Nico is as sweet as he is wiggly! This little man has blossomed immensely since joining our pack, starting out with Training Walks and Energy Bursts as a puppy and since graduating into a Day Camp star! A sensitive soul, Nico flourishes with gentle consistency. During adolescence, he developed some big feelings toward other dogs that required my full focus as I worked to piece together the source of his challenges. Through intentional exposure to appropriate interactions, Nico was able to build his confidence and ability to communicate boundaries with other dogs without letting his fear-based emotions take over. I am so proud of how far he has come and how beautifully he can move through our pack these days. He regularly boards and spends his time happily joining in on any and all group fun. Besties since day one, he and Yogi are both never far apart or far off from a wrestling match or community nap together. Nico has become so familiar with our routine that I'm told he goes bananas when his owners declare to him "Amelia's coming!".

Regina

Pack Athlete

This lady was born for the outdoors. Whether it's swelteringly hot out, or single digit chills, Regina is game for every adventure. Her signature affection of wiggling in between my legs for a back scratch always brings a smile to my face. Her love for the outdoors is truly unmatched. Leaf pile? Rolling in. Puddle? Soaking in. Tall grass? Running in. And sometimes all before we're 10 minutes into the camp day! Regina is so reliable with the other dogs of our pack and I appreciate how her attention is more on her environment and less on the other pack members. This allows for low-confident and reserved pups to get a chance to stretch their legs and get a few sniffs in before any social greeting from Regina comes their way.

Esther

Pack Princess

Sweet Esther is pack princess and cookie connoisseur! She brings her gentle presence and a stylish bow to every pack walk. Esther began with our training walk package and bloomed into a star of on-leash pack walks. In the presence of other dogs, Esther has worked on building calm confident behaviors as she sometimes breaks out into nervous zoomies when feeling overwhelmed. Talk about the cutest of coping mechanisms! For her walks, I select confident, socially neutral, and non-overbearing dogs to be present which helps her to come out of her shell in no time. Once we are all moving and have hit our stride, she smiles with glee and her little curly tail whips back and forth in the wind like a flag of satisfaction.

Tugboat

Hot Diggity Dog

Peppy, good-natured, and full of humor, Tugboat has a personality larger than his little cute self! This little man is whip-smart and always ready to give every task his all - with a lick and a nudge to boot. Starting with Training Walks as a puppy and working on every exercise related to impulse control, he went on to graduate into our on-leash walking group. If watching our pack walks from afar, you may need to squint your eyes to see his little body somewhere near my ankles.. but once you find him, you'll see him confidently strutting his stuff with gusto. When it comes to introducing tiny pups to dogs any bigger than they are, I take into account many different factors on both pups' social profiles.
In Tugboat's case, I can rely on him to have the confidence of a dog 4 times his size. He can certainly hold his own with the bigger 'kids', but I manage interactions closely to ensure that everyone is playing fair and square (or should I say, long and low!).
